Fisher Hydraulics - Company History

Fisher Hydraulics is located in a small community in northwest Iowa in a 102,000 square foot complex. With a dedicated staff leading them, our greatest asset is our people. For our customers we will manufacture a single cylinder or a truckload of cylinders to your exact specifications.

In 1967 J & L Manufacturing was founded in Laurens, Iowa as a sub-contract machine shop. In 1988 the company's name was changed to Fisher Hydraulics, Inc. Since it's inception, the company has focused on the production of hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders and components, becoming a leading manufacturer of such products for industries including log splitters, industrial and construction machinery, and farm and truck equipment manufacturing. In 2000 Ligon Industries, LLC of Birmingham, AL acquired Fisher Hydraulics.

Gold Star was started in 1984 and was moved to Laurens, Iowa in 1985. Original products were machine parts for another hydraulic cylinder manufacturer. A natural progression was the movement into hydraulic cylinder production. The company was purchased by Kaydon Corp. in 1996 along with Seabee Hydraulics in Hampton, Iowa, Great Bend Industries in Great Bend, Kansas, and Victor Fluid Power in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Victor Fluid Power was closed in 2000 and that product was moved to Seabee and Gold Star.

On January 1, 2002 Ligon Industries bought certain assets of Kaydon Fluid Power. Two companies were formed. Fisher Hydraulics and Gold Star Mfg. were merged into Fisher Gold Star (In February of 2005 the name reverted back to Fisher Hydraulics). Seabee and Great Bend Industries were merged into Hampton Hydraulics. On October 1, 2003 HDM, (Hydraulic Developement and Manufacturing) located in Tonawanda, NY was purchased by Ligon Industries, and on February 28, 2005 Ramrod Industries of Spencer, WI. joined our group of hydraulic cylinder manufacturing companies. The total organization is now able to supply a wide range of engineered cylinders from very small to very large, including multi-stage and aluminum cylinders.

Fisher Hydraulics prides itself in being an extremely competitive producer with lead-times matched to customer needs while maintaining a high quality product engineered to meet our customer's specifications.
